Prefer create_budget with nested boxes for greenfield plan imports, duplicate_* to copy an existing plan entity, create_transactions for bulk manual evidence, and single create/update/delete for day-to-day edits.

Idempotency

Create-style tools require an idempotency key so a retry after a network timeout does not insert twice:

  • create_budget, create_box, create_expense, create_transaction, create_investment_group, create_investment, link_account, duplicate_budget, duplicate_box, duplicate_expense
  • HTTP: send Idempotency-Key header or JSON field idempotencyKey (1–128 chars: letters, digits, ._:-)
  • MCP: pass idempotencyKey in tool arguments (no per-call HTTP headers)

Same key + same body → replay the original success. Same key + different body → 409 (idempotency_conflict). Keys are retained for about 24 hours.

create_transactions has no top-level key: each row carries its own idempotencyKey (shared namespace with create_transaction). The batch counts as one write toward the rate limit.
