Prefer create_budget with nested boxes for greenfield imports and single create/update/delete calls for day-to-day edits.

Idempotency

Create-style tools require an idempotency key so a retry after a network timeout does not insert twice:

  • create_budget, create_box, create_expense, create_transaction, create_investment_group, create_investment, link_account
  • HTTP: send Idempotency-Key header or JSON field idempotencyKey (1–128 chars: letters, digits, ._:-)
  • MCP: pass idempotencyKey in tool arguments (no per-call HTTP headers)

Same key + same body → replay the original success. Same key + different body → 409 (idempotency_conflict). Keys are retained for about 24 hours.
