Overview
When you overspend in a month in any box, you cover that overspend from your savings or buffer that month. It usually means the plan was not realistic enough, or something unexpected came up. That is okay—don’t punish yourself.
No rolled box debt
Some envelope systems carry category debt into the next month. Liquify does not. We believe rolling debt feels like punishment instead of helping you plan better next time. Correct the plan, refill on the next cycle, and move on.
Keeping an emergency buffer set aside makes that flexibility possible: money ready when things go wrong, so you can absorb a miss without borrowing from next month’s boxes.
What to do
- Cover the overspend from savings or buffer this month.
- Adjust the box amount (or expenses) to a safer value you can actually follow.
- On the next refill, fund the revised plan.
