Overview
Boxes are the purpose pots in your plan—rent, groceries, savings, goals. How you fund a box shapes what Accounts compares against. For the mental model of expense-driven, fixed-amount, and goal boxes, see Kinds of boxes.
Fund on refill day
On your budget’s refill day, add money to each box according to its setup:
| Setup | What you fund |
|---|---|
| Fixed monthly Amount | That amount each month (for example groceries or free spending) |
| Amount blank + dated expenses | The monthly total of those expenses (expense-driven) |
| Goal | Progress toward a total balance to reach; the monthly Amount (if set) is the refill habit, not the Goal itself |
You can combine a monthly refill with a Goal when you want both a funding habit and a target balance.
Expense-driven boxes and Expected in account
When bills live as dated expenses, set payment dates so Liquify can project how much to keep in the linked account. Expected in account (Needed on Accounts) is that projection—critical for expense-driven boxes. Details: Expected in account.
Add and configure those lines under Expenses.
Categories and payment mode
Tag boxes as Needs, Wants, or Savings for Plan Analysis—that does not replace Amount / Goal / expenses. Choose account or credit card payment mode when you link money; credit cards also need a payment account—see Credit cards and Link an account.
In the app
Create or edit boxes on Plan. Amount and Goal each have info tips. Link an account on the box or on Accounts when you want live comparison.
