Expenses

Dated lines inside a box—frequency, payment dates, groups, and how they feed Expected in account and analysis.

Overview

An expense is a dated, recurring line inside a box. It always has a frequency. Use expenses for bills and subscriptions; use a fixed-amount or goal box for one-time targets instead of a fake one-off expense.

What you configure

FieldWhy it matters
AmountThe charge size for that schedule
FrequencyHow often it repeats; longer-than-monthly schedules split into monthly parts so you fund steadily and pay in full on the due date—see Expense frequency
Payment datePlan date for payment-day reminders, Schedule, and Expected in account
Group (optional)Shared label for related expenses in the same box—helps Transactions Analysis when the bank may bill them together—see Expense groups
DescriptionOptional merchant text or aliases so analysis can match charges more reliably

Expense-driven boxes

Leave the box monthly Amount blank and let dated expenses define the total. Expected in account / Needed then projects cash for upcoming bills until the next refill—see Expected in account and Kinds of boxes.

New costs

When you add a new recurring expense—like an annual bill—for this or next month, often fund the first occurrence from savings so it enters the plan without carrying debt, then save monthly toward the next cycle.

Give the cost a job in a box: a new dated line in an expense-driven box, or a bump to a fixed-amount box. That keeps Remaining honest and matches the “no rolled debt” idea in Overspending.

In the app

Add or edit expenses from Plan (or from Schedule rows). Frequency, payment date, and group each have info tips that match the linked guides.
